AIR CHAMBER SEAMS
When we talk about the latest air chamber seam standard, Hot (Air) Welded and Thermo Bonded belong to the same type of seam processing. The main chamber seam staying together is no longer using just PVC glue. So the air chamber seam won’t be damaged with time or daily use. The PVC glue lifetime is 3-10 years based on workmanship and condition of use. Hot welded (or Thermo welded) seam may reduce over 50% of major boat repairs and extends the boat lifetime to over 10-15 years.
Seamax has been making our Ocean Series and Ocean T Series inflatable boats with hot welded seams since 2017. We use the overlapped major seam structure to allow the chamber fabric to stay together by itself without the need for additional seam tape. Seamax still uses seam tape as an add-on to give the boat an extra welded seam. We refer to this as being Double Hot Welded.
The PVC boat industry standard is joined chamber seam. This dramatically reduces any chance of air leaking after finished. Usually, the same style of overlapped major seam structure can be found in high-end Hypalon boats. Boats using over-lapped seams will use more material to build and many extra hours to construct. In the meantime, it requires better-skilled workers to make it right. Now we can be confident to tell that our chamber seam’s lifetime will be the same as the fabric’s lifetime. In other words, when the boat’s lifetime has ended, it will not be from chamber seam issues.
Right now, all our Seamax boat manufacturing is the same. Hot welded seam for PVC brings the boat’s overall quality much closer to the Hypalon boat. Seamax boats use German PVC ensuring Seamax Boats are of the highest standard in the inflatable boat industry.
